LAST TIME OUT: NJCU lost both matches to Hood College  (23-25, 16-25, 23-25) and Notre Dame of Maryland (19-25, 23-25, 22-25) on September 13 at a tri-match in Baltimore, MD. NJAC OPENER: Today is the 2014 New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both schools. William Paterson, which finished seventh last year (21-6, 3-5 NJAC) was picked seventh in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll; the top six finishers of nine schools that sponsor the sport make the NJAC Tournament. NJCU, which was eighth in the NJAC in 2013 (8-29, 1-7 NJAC), was picked to finish ninth.

HOME OPENER: Today is also NJCU’s 2014 home opener. The Gothic Knights will play 12 home matches including a tri-match (September 27) and a four-team tournament (November 1-2) at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on ‘Coach Charlie Brown Court.’ NJCU is 158-126 all-time in home matches in its 31-year history (1984-87 venues unknown) and 133-94 all-time in the JMAC since it opened in 1994.

SO CLOSE: This season, out of the eight matches that NJCU has played this season there had been six sets that were determined by less than three points.
